Why is number 1 not used in F1?
The number 1 is reserved for the reigning champion and was used in 2014 by 2013 champion Sebastian Vettel. It has not been used by anybody since, and as a result, Vettel is the only driver since 2014 to use more than one number. He now uses the number 5.

Formula 1 drivers can't change their numbers unless they win the Driver's Championship. If they do, they may race with the number 1 in the following season. However, this is the only time F1 drivers can change their numbers, as once they've chosen their numbers, they must keep them.
Right after that, fans speculated in the comments on social media why this number was chosen. I also found their explanation really good and I'm happy to take it over: they said to read it like "For (instead of four) 7", and the "7" stands for Michael, which is true. So the 47 would mean "For Michael".

The qualifying session is split into three parts, called Q1, Q2, and Q3. Q1 is 18 minutes long, followed by a seven minute break. Q2 is 15 minutes long, followed by an eight minute break. Q3 is 12 minutes long. During each part of qualifying, the fastest lap time set by a car is recorded.

Fernando Alonso believes that Max Verstappen has the potential to become the greatest F1 driver ever if he is able to remain in a good car. The Dutchman equalled Alonso's achievement of two World Championships at the Japanese Grand Prix, with both drivers also currently sitting on 32 race wins.
