Ageing, an inevitable process, is commonly measured by chronological age and, as a convention, a person aged 65 years or more is often referred to as 'elderly'.

The overwhelming majority of 60 year olds will live until at least 70, and majorities will get to at least 80. Similarly, very few people who make it to 50 die before they turn 60.
