How long after applying Bondi Sands Can I shower?
How long do I need to wait before showering after applying Bondi Sands? Our Self Tan ranges can be washed off after just 1 hour, but for a deeper tan we advise avoiding showering, swimming, and perspiring for 6 - 8 hours to allow your tan to develop fully on the skin.
The color guide will rub off on your sheets, so I'd recommend covering yourself or use another sheet you don't care about if you're going to sleep in it (I always do). It will come out in the wash though!
Can I swim after applying Bondi Sands? We recommend avoiding swimming for 6 - 8 hours after applying your tan to allow it to develop fully on your skin. Once your tan has developed you can swim, however seawater and chlorinated pools may result in your tan fading a little more quickly.
Another way to make your tan darker is to apply two layers of self-tan or to top your tan up the day after the initial application. However, this is probably best left to the more confident tanners among us.
In fact, leaving fake tan on overnight will help the color develop, giving you a better finish. The key is to use the right tanning product, such as the Bondi Sands mentioned earlier.
DON'T moisturise after the initial rinse off of fake tan residue. This is a biggie. The product is still developing. Adding moisturiser at this point will dilute the tan's development.
Skin Lovers
Get your Bondi Sands glow with the added bonus of skin-loving ingredients from our Pure Self Tanning Product Range. The Pure Face Range is non-comedogenic (doesn't clog your pores) and dermatologically tested, so it's perfect for those with sensitive skin.
You can leave it on your skin for 1 - 8 hours, depending on how dark you like your tan. The longer you leave it on the darker you get. That's the great part, you can control your colour.
Bondi Sands Ultra Dark Foam felt very sticky to the touch until it dried. It dried in around 45 minutes, so not the fastest drying, but also not the worst. I would've liked to see it dry a bit faster just because it's a pain waiting to apply clothing for 45 minutes. This product smells delicious!
Bondi Sands' Self Tanning Foam is one of my longstanding favourites as it applies really smoothly, you can visibly see where you're applying it, it lasts forever and it doesn't smell of digestive biscuits – always a positive. As always, the tan applied beautifully; I felt like it really nourished my skin, too.
How many washes does Bondi Sands last?
How long will my Bondi Sands tan last? Your Bondi Sands tan should last between 5 - 7 days, and with good preparation and moisturising it can last even longer. However, everyone's skin naturally exfoliates at a different rate.
The biggest difference is the consistency of the formulation. Our original Dry-Oil can be sprayed directly to the skin or onto an application mitt. The Foam is a hydrating, light foam that you apply liberally to an application mitt.
If you showered after just a few hours, you might notice your skin is not as tanned as you'd expected. Don't fret! Your colour will continue to develop and darken for a few hours (and a spray tan takes up to 24 hours to develop fully). That brown water disappearing down the drain?
After you apply self-tanner, avoid moisture for at least a few hours. That includes bath, shower, swimming, sweating, or saunas. Additionally, don't apply moisturizer right after. Take a shower within the 24 hours following self-tanner application and gently pat dry to avoid streaks.
When you're just starting out with self-tanner and want to build up a deeply rich color, you can apply self-tanner more frequently than once a week. Depending on the specific product and the look you're hoping to achieve, you can apply certain products every day as needed.
The directions say to leave the product on anywhere from 30 minutes to 3 hours. 30 minutes to achieve a light/medium tan, 1 hour to achieve a dark tan, and 2-3 hours to achieve a very dark tan. I left the Bondi Sands 1 Hour Express on for 1 hour before rinsing it off. I then waited overnight for my tan to develop.
We recommend waiting at least 4-8 hours after your spray tan before you shower for the first time, but don't wait more than 24 hours. When you shower for the first time after getting a spray tan, you'll probably see some golden glow wash down the drain, but don't worry!
It's important to give the color about 6 to 8 hours to develop without taking a shower or sweating. Washing your skin too quickly after applying self-tanner can cause some of the product to wash off, creating streaks and uneven areas.
Moisturise daily
Not only does it leave skin feeling silky smooth, but it can prolong your tan for up to 3 days longer with even fade.
We want your tan to be 20/10 and unfortunately if moisturiser is applied it can leave blotches, marks and strip the tan in certain spots on the skin. Once you've washed off the colour guide and waited at least 8 hours, you can apply your favourite moisturiser to your entire body.
Should you wash off fake tan with hot or cold shower?
After spray tan care is just as important
When you rinse off do not use hot water. You will want to rinse off using luke warm or cold water, warm water can shorten the life of your spray tan. When rinsing off, use your hand to gently rinse your body.
Once you've successfully self-tanned, wait until the products have dried completely before attempting to put on any clothes. We recommend at least 10 minutes, but keep checking any problem areas, such as under the arms or behind the knees, to see how they're drying. If you're still tacky, it's too early!
The next step to ensuring you get an even base for your self tan is to moisturise. If you're exfoliating the day before you tan, apply a layer of moisturiser all over your body after showering to stop any dryness creeping back in.
As fake tan reacts with the amino acids in the dead layer of your skin to turn you a temporary bronzed colour. If the tan is exposed to oxygen or to too much heat, the guide colour can turn green.
If you are using Bondi Sands as your tan of choice, it's worth noting that the products continue to develop even after they've been washed off - so it's best to rinse after the recommended time period.
Taking the First Shower
The longer you leave your tan on, the more time the solution has to develop on your skin. Showering too early will make your tan streaky or splotchy. However, make sure not to leave your tan on for more than 24 hours. It is recommended to wait 6-24 hours before your first shower.
